Junior welterweight Ernesto “Tito” Mercado will not be competing on this weekend’s card at Madison Square Garden Theater in New York City.

Mercado, who was originally set to face Jonathan Montrel on the Richardson Hitchins-George Kambosos undercard, is off due to injury. Matchroom Boxing, Mercado’s promoter, announced via social media the cancellation of the bout.

Mercado, 17-0 (16 KOs), signed with Matchroom Boxing in September. Mercado, a 23-year-old from Pomona, California, has only fought since the signing as his November bout with Jesus Saracho was canceled when Saracho missed weight. Mercado made his debut with the promotion in January, stopping former titleholder Jose Pedraza and Mercado is currently on a six-fight knockout streak.

Montrel, 19-3 (13 KOs), entered on a four-fight winning streak and the 35-year-old from New Orleans, Louisiana, was set to fight for the second time in 2025. He had won an eight-round unanimous decision over Jose Edgardo Garcia in March.
