In a fight that saw a combined 1,688 punches thrown - 825 for Erislandy Lara - (a career high, his previous high was 609 thrown vs. Delvin Rodriguez) and 863 for Biran Castano, Castano appeared a bit unlucky not to have won outright as his big advantage in power connects (181-103) and 7-3-2 lead in the CompuBox round-by-round breakdown of total connects signaled that the Argentine might have been the more effective aggressor.

That said, five of the rounds were separated by three or fewer connects (and three of them favored Lara). Lara had success landing lefts down the middle (he led 34%-27% in power accuracy) and there were points where Castano's pressure was stemmed, at least enough for the draw to be scored.

Castano led 195-130 overall and, in the final two rounds, he prevailed 44-24 overall and 43-16 power. Scoring: 115-113 C, 115-113 L, 114-114, which allowed Castano to retain his WBA "world" title.

A note: Erickson Lubin predicted a draw while on camera with Brian Custer. Castano had nearly a 2-1 edge in punches landed over the last 2 rounds...
