Former Commonwealth lightweight champion Willie Limond has revealed his frustration that his recent fight in Belfast was cancelled, but is still looking to stay busy over the coming months, with an offer from former opponent Erik “El Terrible” Morales to return to Mexico.
The 32 year-old was scheduled to box Jay Morris on the Graham Earl promoted “Fists of Fury” card on April 2nd, only for the bout to be called off a week before the event, leaving former European super-featherweight champion Limond (33-3) downhearted.
“Yes, of course I am disappointed, but these things happen in boxing. I am still hoping to get busy this year,” Limond told WBN.
The Glasgow fighter hasn’t fought since an offer from three-weight world champion Erik Morales to face him in Mexico last September at a catch-weight of 141lbs. Limond was knocked out by some devastating body shots in six-rounds, but now intends to move back down to lightweight for the foreseeable future.
“I still want to fight for titles at lightweight. The fight with Morales was a dream come true, but there is no shame in losing to the man. He actually told me he wants to get me a few fights in Mexico when I trained with him the other week. We had a good chat so fingers crossed.”
