Former three division champion Erik "El Terrible" Morales is not too impressed with 20-year-old undefeated Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, the junior middleweight champion of the World Boxing Council [WBC]. During a recent roundtable discussion with Sal Rodriguez, Morales gave his thoughts on Alvarez's worth as a fighter. While Morales was quite critical, he said Alvarez, because of his young age, has the potential to improve with time.
"He looks well-grounded. He makes mistakes while moving and there are flaws in his defense. His power is not consistent with his division and it won't hold with better opponents. The combination punching is still poor, but he's a work in progress. That's what I see. He does have ability. Because of his age, we have to give him the benefit of the doubt. To be honest, his opponents have been a tad below [standard], but let's give him a chance," Morales said.
