Former three-division champ Erik Morales felt the Mexican fans were too hard on the performance of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. last Saturday night in Mexico. In the main event of Top Rank's "Latin Fury" card, Chavez Jr. faced his toughest opponent to date, Matt Vanda, and struggled to win a split-decision after ten-rounds.

The Mexican fans were upset over the performance over Chavez Jr. and the scoring of the fight. One judge scored every single round for Chavez Jr, which was too much of a stretch that even the hometown fans were not buying it. After the fight was over, fans began to shower Chavez Jr. with boos and they even booed his legendary father, Chavez Sr. Boos were not all, some fans began to pelt the ring, and the Chavez camp, with various objects.

Morales says the Mexican fans expect too much from Chavez Jr., that Mexican fans want him to be the fighter Chavez Sr. was, but the son needs more time to get himself to that level.

"I think the people were a little too hard on him. Maybe they expect more of him than is actually there. He's a complete novice, he's gained experience, he's grown as a fighter, but he still lacks a lot of things. The public sees two forms of Chavez Jr, the first is a superstar and the second is the son of the legend, a Mexican idol," Morales told ESTO. "Julio and his brother Omar, I haven't seen a lot of them in the ring, but in each fight the opponents are getting better and they are moving a long step by step."
