Former three division champion Erik Morales, retired since 2007, is hoping to return to the ring before the end of the year and his main target is fellow Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez. Morales has been trying to get the fight with Marquez since last year. Marquez's manager/trainer, Nacho Beristain, told reporters a few days ago that he was willing to make the fight with Morales in September - if a proposed July 18 showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr. fell apart.

Morales feels that a fight with Marquez will complete the story that revolves around him, Marquez, Manny Pacquiao and Marco Antonio Barrera. Almost every possible matchup between the four fighters has taken place - except Morales vs. Marquez. Top Rank tried to get them together back in 2004/2005, when they promoted both of them. The fight never took off due to a high purse demand from Marquez.

"Let's see what's going to happen. A fight with Juan Manuel Marquez would be very nice. I think that fight is the only thing to close the the chapter of fights with Barrera, Marquez, Morales and Pacquiao. We hope to make that fight," Morales told ESTO.
