At the Caliente Racetrack in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, Erik “Terrible” Morales (51-6, 35 KOs) retained his WBC silver junior welterweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Francisco Lorenzo (35-9, 16KOs). The fight was better than many had expected. Lorenzo suffered a flash knockdown in the fifth, but he was never afraid to stand and trade with the bigger Morales. There were a few close rounds where both fighters went to war. The scores were 116-111, 114-113 and 115-112.
Featherweight contender Alejandro Sanabria (26-1, 21KOs) stopped Sergio Lopez (12-3, 8KOs) in two rounds.
Junior flyweight Pedro Guevara (14-0, 10 KOs) picked up the vacant WBC silver title by stopping Karluis Diaz (11-2, 9 KOs) in three rounds.
Bantamweight prospect Ivan Morales (8-0, 5KOs), the younger brother of Erik Morales, stopped Manuel Valdez (2-3, 1 KO) in the first round.
Bantamweight contender Alberto Guevara (10-0, 4KOs) won a four round majority decision over Adan Osuna (8-6-3, 3KOs). The scores were 39-37, 38-38 and 39-37.
In the card's opener, lightweight contender Mario Hermosillo Padilla (6-3-3, 1KO) won a four round majority decision over fringe fighter Rene Ruiz (5-6, 3KOs). The scores were 39-36, 39-37 and 38-38.
