Former flyweight champion Eric Morel (37-2, 19KOs) is targeting a bout with bantamweight champion Gerry Penalosa (53-6, 36KOs). Morel returns to action on May 23 against Evaristo Primero at the Coliseo Antonio R. Barcelo in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico. Manuel Alejandro Siaca (20-6, 18KOs), who briefly held the WBA super middleweight title, will appear in the co-feature.
Not only does Morel want a bout with Penalosa, he's willing to travel to the Philippines for the title opportunity. Penalosa returns to action on July 19, defending his title against Isidro Garcia in Cebu City.
"That is the fight I want. It doesn't matter where it takes place. Penalosa is the one I want and I don't have the smallest doubt that I'll be a world champion again. I know time is passing by, so I want to fight as often as possible to work my way to a shot," Morel told Primera Hora.
Primero will be Morel's third bout of the year after resuming his career in February after a three-year layoff due to legal troubles.
