In a battle of former champion on February 13, Eric Morel has promised to punish Gerry Penalosa in a bantamweight eliminator at the Las Vegas Hilton in Las Vegas. The winner will get a shot at WBO champion Fernando Montiel. Morel and his father/trainer Cirilo Morel, have a feeling the fight fight Montiel will never happen. The winner of Morel-Penalosa is due to fight Montiel in June. Morel has been Montiel's mandatory for a long time.
"We have never seen Montiel to run so much. We don't believe Eric will ever get that fight," said Cirilo Morel to Primera Hora. "In spite of the fact that we have lost a little interest in fighting him, Eric signed an option to fight it in June."
Penalosa has done some talking about Morel. Because of that talk, Morel plans to punish him in the ring.
"Penalosa is a good boxer. Penalosa has said that Eric is a chicken and he likes to run in the ring. Therefore, we are going to beat him round by round. Eric has the mentality that nobody is going to stop him from being the champion again."
