Bantamweight Eric Morel is prepared to move up in weight for a fight with Mexico's Jorge 'Travieso' Arce, the WBO super bantamweight champion. Arce won the title last Saturday in Las Vegas with a knockout over Wilfredo 'Papito' Vazquez in the tweflth round.
"I'm at bantamweight, and he's at 122, but it would be a good fight. It would be a privilege to fight a champion like Arce. We came close to trading blows at bantamweight but because of a cut the fight never happened, but let's see what would happen at 122. Of course. I am ready to go if I get the opportunity," Morel said. "He has the potential to succeed as long as he doesn't face Eric Morel. My style is crazy. I can outbox him."
Morel said he saw the fight between Arce and Vázquez and felt the Puerto Rican boxer was winning up until the twelfth round stoppage.
"It was a close fight until it was stopped. For me, Vazquez was winning the fight. But he needed to box a little more. I think that was his mistake because every time he boxed, Vazquez did whatever he wanted to Arce," Morel said.
On the other hand, Morel said he hopes to soon return to action in a world title bout at 118 pounds before trying to move up to featherweight.
"I think those are the plans. Gaby (Peñagaricano) will meet with Golden Boy Promotions in the coming days to inquire. I think it's a title bout at 118 pounds but if I am given the opportunity to face Arce, we'll gain the weight," Arce said.
