Saturday's return of former cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli is an ongoing saga with new twists and turns by the hour. Several days ago Johnathon Banks pulled out with an ankle injury, earlier today late replacement Francisco Alvarez failed his pre-fight medical after his blood pressure was shown to be very high - and now, according to Wales Online, it appears that Enzo will take on heavyweight Matthew Ellis (20-9, 5KOs) in a ten-round bout at the ExCeL Arena in London.
Macca will have to wait until next year to fight for the vacant WBO cruiserweight title. Depending on how he does at heavyweight, maybe he will stay there. He returns from a two-round knockout loss in March to David Haye, who is now fighting at heavyweight.
"I'm really hacked off with everything that has happened so when I get in that ring I'm going to be an angry man throwing bombs," said Maccarinelli to Wales Online. "These things happen in boxing, it's been a bad year but I can end it on a high by smashing up a good heavyweight and then look forward to fighting for the WBO world cruiserweight title next year."
