At the ExCel Arena in London, former cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli (29-2, 22KOs) made an impressive heavyweight debut with a two-round knockout of Matthew Ellis (20-6, 9KOs). This was Macca's first fight since a two-round knockout loss to David Haye in March. Macca sent Ellis down three times in two rounds with body shots.
Maccarinelli was originally scheduled to fight Johnathon Banks who pulled out with an ankle injury and then late replacement Francisco Alvarez failed his medical exam. Macca agreed to face Ellis on 24-hours notice. Macca will face Banks for the vacant WBO cruiserweight title in 2009.
