Enzo Calzaghe is finding the business of boxing promotion much more testing than the training side of the sport. Enzo has announced that Calzaghe Promotions will be staging a bill in Cardiff this April but he also admitted that star names Gavin Rees and Bradley Pryce wouldn’t be on the bill, as Calzaghe cannot secure TV coverage for the event.
Enzo told Walesonline.co.uk that the current TV blackout is hurting his firm. “For now, we can’t get a television deal. Bradley and Gavin both need TV exposure. We feel let down by the TV companies. But so do a lot of people in boxing. Hopefully, we can get Bradley and Gavin on someone else’s shows, someone like Barry Hearn’s, in the short term. They are world title fighters and need exposure,” declared Enzo.
However, there is good news in the form of Bradley Pryce’s participation in this month’s Prizefighter: The light-middleweights tournament, which takes place on February the 26th. Calzaghe guided Gavin Rees to a Prizefighter tournament win and the confident trainer fully expects Pryce to make an impact should he keep his composure on the night.
“Bradley doesn’t need to change anything in the ring, only in his head. He has been training with me since he was nine, so I know he’s got the ability to start a fight strongly and dominate for three rounds. He is suited to Prizefighter and I will have him ready, he just needs to change his approach, not his skills or style,” opined Enzo.
