Bryan Lua’s activity enabled him to easy out-point an unwilling Nelson Colon on Friday night in Las Vegas.

Lua beat Colon by unanimous decision in their six-round lightweight fight on the Emanuel Navarrete-Ruben Villa undercard at MGM Grand Conference Center. Judges Adalaide Byrd, Eric Cheek and Lisa Giampa each scored their fight 60-54 for Lua.

Lua punched in combination and tried to hurt Colon, who kept his gloves held high and didn’t throw nearly as many punches. The 22-year-old Lua (7-0, 3 KOs), of Madera, California, had his three-fight knockout streak snapped.

The 24-year-old Colon (4-4) lost a third straight fight, all by decision.

ESPN+ streamed Lua’s win as part of the Emanuel Navarrete-Ruben Villa undercard at MGM Grand Conference Center.

Lua unloaded various power punches on the well-protected Colon in the opening minute of the fifth round. Colon continued coming forward later in the fifth round, but he hardly threw any punches.

A left hook by Lua cracked Colon with about 1:15 to go in the fourth round.

Colon came forward throughout the third round, but Lua out-landed him. Lua let his hands go in the middle of the ring after the halfway mark of that fourth round.

Lua landed a straight right hand to Colon’s head late in the second round. Colon didn’t throw many punches during that round.

Colon kept his guard high and protected himself well in the first round. Lua did sneak a few right hands around his guard, however, including a thudding body shot.

In the previous fight Friday night, Rashiem Jefferson picked apart a game Steve Garagarza throughout their four-round featherweight fight.

Philadelphia’s Jefferson fought almost exclusively from a southpaw stance and consistently caught Garagarza with right hooks and straight lefts. Judges John McKaie (40-36), Dave Moretti (40-36) and Chris Migliore (40-36) each scored all four rounds for Jefferson.

The 19-year-old Jefferson improved to 3-0. Garagarza (2-3-1, 1 KO), of Laredo, Texas, hasn’t been knocked out in any of his six professional fights.

Jefferson caught Garagarza with a right hook that knocked him off balance with about 1:10 to go in their fight. He continued catching Garagarza from a distance for the remainder of the fourth round.

Jefferson boxed more from the outside during the third round, when he landed several right hooks. One of those shots opened a deep, long cut around Garagarza’s left eye.

Jefferson out-landed Garagarza during the second round, but Garagarza landed several flush punches when they fought on the inside during those three minutes.

Jefferson rocked Garagarza with a left hand a little more than minute into the second round.

Jefferson snapped back Garagarza’s head with a straight left with a little less than a minute to go in the first round.

In the first fight Friday night, Akeem Jackson couldn’t take Kahshad Elliott’s power for long.

Elliott knocked down Jackson twice within the first minute and five seconds of his pro debut, which was scheduled as a four-round junior middleweight match. Once Jackson took another knee, barely a minute into their fight, he decided not to get up and referee Mike Ortega counted him out 1:15 into their bout.

The 20-year-old Elliott (1-0, 1 KO), of Plainfield, New Jersey, hit his opponent with a left hook to the body that hurt Jackson and caused him to take a knee about 40 seconds into their bout. Jackson got up and continued, but he went down again after Elliott hit him with several more punches to the body.

Elliott landed a right to Jackson’s head when Jackson was down the second time, but Ortega didn’t punish him for that foul.

The 29-year-old Jackson, of Oxon Hill, Maryland, slipped to 1-2.
