Emanuel Navarrete has demonstrated in previous fights he can outbox his opponents. He has had a penchant for ending matters in recent fights.
Navarrete stopped veteran Breilor Teran in the fourth round Saturday night at the Domo Sindicato de Trabajadores IMSS in Tlalpan, Mexico.
Navarrete (24-1, 21 knockouts) had a quick turnaround from his last bout on Jan. 20, when he scored an impressive knockout over former bantamweight contender Glenn Porras. Teran, who resides in Maracaibo, Venezuela, entered Saturday's bout having won seven of his previous eight bouts, but against mediocre competition.
Teran (22-16-1, 15 KOs) came to fight, but was outgunned by the younger and stronger Navarrete. About a minute into the second round, Navarrete stunned Teran with a left hook to the head.
By the third round, Navarrete began to aggressively walk Teran down, mixing his attack to the head and body. Navarrete was more accurate with each passing minute, even ripping hooks to the body of Teran.
Teran began to bleed profusely from his nose early in the fourth round. During the same round, Navarrete stunned Teran again, again with a left hook to the head.
During an exchange late in the round, Teran refused to break from a clench with Navarrete. Referee Guadalupe Garcia attempted to break the two fighters, but chose to stop the fight at 2:31, prompting cheers from the partisan crowd in this Mexico City suburb.
Navarrete, who is ranked number two by the WBA and the WBO, has stopped his last seven opponents. He has not lost since his sixth fight as a pro, which took place in July of 2012.
The 23-year-old Navarrete made his pro debut one month after his 17th birthday.
The fight headline a Zanfer Promotions card, which aired live on Azteca TV in Mexico and beIN Sports en Espanol in the United States.
