PROMOTER Gabriel “Bebot” Elorde Jr. wants WBO flyweight champion Omar Narvaez to give the unbeaten WBO Asia pacific champion Drian “Little Espinosa” Francisco a shot at the title on September 13 in the Philippines.
Elorde hopes to give the Philippines its sixth world champion along with Manny Pacquiao, Gerry Penalosa, Nonito Donaire, Florante Condes and Donnie Nietes.
The eldest son of the great Flash Elorde tendered his offer of an $80,000 tax free purse (roughly 3,506,506 pesos) to Narvaez’s handler and trainer Carlos Tello in Cordoba, Argentina on Wednesday.
Elorde and Tello once met in August 2006 during the mandatory fight between Narvaez and No. 1 contender Rexon “Pison” Flores, who was the WBO Asia Pacific flyweight champion.
Team Narvaez was also assured of four round-trip airplane tickets with free accommodations during their stay.
Elorde also told Tello of his right for one option or right to promote the first title defense should Francisco dethrone Narvaez.
Elorde’s offer was sent before he knew that WBO president Francisco Valcarcel told this writer that Narvaez is obliged to face mandatory challenger Rayonte Whitfield of the United States.
“They are planning a title bout for late August or early September 2008,” Valcarcel told this writer on Tuesday from his office in Puerto Rico.
However, Elorde's offer is still there, since there is no fight contract that binds the proposed Narvaez-Whitfield mandatory defense.
