PROMOTER Gabriel “Bebot” Elorde Jr. has offered actor Cesar Montano and commercial model Andrew Wolfe a chance to settle their differences on his scheduled card where the vacant Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) light flyweight title will be disputed in the main event between Filipino Juanito Rubillar and Indonesian Irvan Ogah, on September 23 in a soon to determine venue in Metro Manila.
Elorde made known his proposal on Saturday after he suggested Friday to the Games Amusement Board (GAB) to license the executives and movie actors and other professionals.
Elorde told GAB chairman Eric Buhain, boxing should be played fair and square.
“This sport (must be handle) correctly with dignity and humbleness especially inside the boxing ring,” said Elorde.
Montano and Wolfe almost came to blows outside of the ring after the latter’s demolition of Montano’s younger brother Rommel on top of the ring as part of Celebrity Boxing Match last Sunday at Aliw Theater.
Montano admitted he lost his temper after Wolfe continued to punch the smaller and lighter Rommel even after falling on the floor during the third round, which ended the fight.
But Wolfe’s provoking gestures after the fight angered Montano, who then tried to attack from the crowd. Wolfe prevented the face off by running away, then he blottered the nearly commotion to a police station and challenged Montano to fight him.
“May I respectfully request the honorable Chairman and commissioners to consider the possibility to include the said trainees to be given a special license as boxers under the GAB to be able to handle this sports correctly with dignity and humbleness especially inside the boxing ring, where in they will be guided correctly as what a professional boxer should follow,” said Elorde, who has three commercial gyms in Juli Vargas in Pasig City, Libis in Quezon City and Ansons in Makati City.
“As one of a gym owner, we have noticed that there are several members of professional and entertainers like actors, actresses, singers, musicians etcetera who come to boxing gymnasiums regularly and do the routine of a professional boxer,” he said.
Rubillar is currently ranked No. 2 by the World Boxing Councl (WBC) while Ogah is top ranked by the OPBF.
Also slated in the card is the match up between former IBF minimumweight title challenger Jun Arlos of Paranaque City and Shofyan Efendi, another Indon fighter.
