WBC featherweight champion Elio Rojas went through with his surgery to remove a bone fragment from his right hand and to correct an issue with his left shoulder. The surgery went well. The injuries prevented Rojas from moving forward with a planned unifcation with WBA champion Yuriorkis Gamboa on HBO. He was replaced by IBF champion Orlando Salido.

The doctors told Rojas to rest for two to three months before returning to training camp. He wants to take a fight before the end of the year and then plans to challenge the winner of the Gamboa-Salido unification.
