According to reports in Santo Domingo, WBC featherweight champion Elio Rojas is scheduled to have surgery this weekend to remove a bone fragment from his right hand. Rojas was scheduled to fight Yuriorkis Gamboa on September 11. He withdrew with an injury. Gamboa will now fight IBF champion Orlando Salido. Rojas said the hand was first injured during a February defense against Guty Espadas."

Rojas says that he would still like a shot at Gamboa in the future. He wants to make a defense of his title before the year is over.

"I had a lot of desire to confront Gamboa to show the world that I am the best featherweight of today," said Rojas. "I had designed, together with my team, a strategy to defeat him."
