Cruiserweight prospect Eleider Alvarez (13-0, 8KOs) is very excited to get in the ring with undefeated Thomas Oosthuizen (22-0-2, 13KOs), set for January 18th at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. The fight is going to be televised by HBO and the WBC's silver light heavyweight championship is up for grabs. Oosthuizen makes the leap to 175-pounds after lackluster outings in his recent super middleweight performances.
"I've very excited with fighting Thomas because he is a very well known fighter with a phenomenal record. It is great to be fighting a fighter of his caliber, his experience. It's something that I've been looking forward to, fighting someone of his caliber, because he is a southpaw compared to my orthodox style, but I'm looking forward to this fight," Alvarez said.
The Cuban fighter, who resides in Montreal, is holding his training camp in Big Bear, California. Alvarez is working hard alongside former champion Jean Pascal, who headlines the Montreal event against Canadian rival Lucian Bute.
"My camp has been going great. This is one of the best camps that I've ever had. I'm very proud to be a part of this camp in Big Bear, California with my manager and trainer Marc Ramsey and [strength and conditioning coach] Memo Heredia. It's been one of the most phenomenal experiences that I've had in my career," Alvarez said.
