Super bantamweight Efrain Esquivias and welterweight Artemio Reyes will fight in separate bouts on May 17th, Thompson Boxing Promotions matchmaker Alex Camponovo told BoxingScene.com.
No word yet on whom Esquivias and Reyes will face on the Thompson Boxing Promotions card. Both bouts will take place at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, CA.
Camponovo also serves as the promotional company’s General Manager.
Esquivias (16-2, 9 KOs), from Carson, CA, is coming off a 12 round unanimous decision loss to Jonathan Romero on September 21st at the Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, CA. Three months prior to the Romero loss, Esquivias lost a close eight round majority decision to Rico Ramos.
His best victory to date as a pro was a close 10 round majority decision victory over former world title challenger Fernando Beltran on November 4th, 2011.
Reyes (19-2, 15 KOs), from nearby Colton, has won his last four bouts in a row since his first round technical knockout loss to Alan Sanchez last April. The bout against Sanchez was a rematch of their June 2009 brawl, a fight Reyes would win by a split decision.
His last three victories have come by knockout. In his last fight on February 22nd, Reyes, who is a business student at CSU, San Bernandino, knocked out Rodolfo Armenta in the second round of a scheduled eight round bout.
Reyes’ best victory to date was an eight round unanimous decision over 2008 United States Olympian Javier Molina in October of 2011.
The May 17th fight card will be the third fight card within a three week span for Thompson Boxing. The Orange, CA-based company promotes a “Locked N’ Loaded” fight card on April 26th at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario. Welterweights Aron Martinez and Alberto Herrera square off in the main event.
Thompson Boxing, along with Banner Promotions, will promote a fight card on Thursday, May 2nd at the Omega Products International in Corona. Junior welterweights Mauricio Herrera and Ji-Hoon Kim will fight in a scheduled 10 round bout. ESPN2 will present the card as a special “Friday Night Fights” telecast.
