The news was flying all over Venezuela that undefeated WBC lightweight champion Edwin Valero was arrested several days ago for carrying a firearm, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving well above the speed limit. While he did get into a situation with the local police, Valero's publicist Reynaldo Solorzano says the media stretched the truth without confirming any of the facts.

Valero was pulled over by police in Venezuela after visiting his parents in a small town in the country. He was taken in and passed all of the alcohol related tests that were given to him. According to the law in Venezuela, a police officer must have at least two other parties present to verify a firearm being present. Valero says there was never any firearm in the car and no type of weapon was recovered from his vehicle. He claims the police officer in question, and some media members in the country, are trying to slander his name. Valero's team has requested an official statement from the head of police to straighten the situation out.
