According to a report by Notifight, former WBA super featherweight champ Edwin Valero (24-0, 24KOs) is close to signing a promotional deal with Golden Boy Promotions, who would represent him in the United States if the deal goes through. Valero recently moved up in the weight to loaded lightweight division. He is currently in Big Bear, California, being used by Oscar De La Hoya as a sparring partner for the December 6 bout with Manny Pacquiao.

"Out of the several options presented to me and Mr. Honda [his promoter in Japan], this is one that we both agree on," Valero said. "Oscar De La Hoya is a great figure in boxing and I am helping him as much as I can."

Valero is still under a medical suspension in most parts of the United States, stemming from injuries suffered from a motorcycle accident that occured a few years ago. He was recently cleared to fight in Texas and expects to be fully cleared in other areas after he passes precautionary medical tests.
