Fresh from the fifth defense of his WBC light flyweight title, Mexico’s Edgar Sosa says his hit list includes an optional defense before taking on Juantio Rubillar who’s just earned the number-one challenger’s spot.
A busy Champion, Sosa has fought all of these defenses in just fourteen months. He outlines that the plan is to take a short holiday before returning to the gym to prepare for an optional against an opponent yet to be decided in late August or early September. And that fight could take place in Haiti, Japan, the United States or on home soil. Following the optional, Juanito Rubillar will be next.
Edgar didn’t see Juanito Rubillar defeat Omar Niño by split-decision on the undercard of the bill he headlined. He closed the show by TKO’ing Japanese southpaw Takashi Kunishige in the eighth. But he said he had seen Juanito’s two fights against Jorge Arce and was impressed, praising him as a fighter with a wealth of experience. He accordingly commented:
“We’re going to carefully study Juanito and train extremely hard for the fight against him,” Sosa said.
Edgar who describes his extremely busy schedule as the best way to stay sharp and fighting fit, says his plan is to fight three more times this year, and once or twice more after that at his present weight, and then move up to flyweight.
