WBC Light Flyweight Champion Edgar Sosa, is not taking Filipino challenger Rodel Mayol lightly.
Looking lean but not gaunt, as he lightly partook of fruits at a media breakfast in Mexico City, prior to the eleventh defense of his title, on November 21st in the Southern Mexican State of Chiapas, Edgar was quick to praise as well as appraise his opponent who’s dubbed: “Kid Rapido.” Mayol has twice locked heads with quick silver Ivan Calderon, and was defeated by Jose “Archie” Ulises Solis. His record of nineteen KO’s in twenty fights shows he’s an attacking walk forward fighter.
It’s a far cry from the elusive Omar Soto, who took some figuring out until Edgar got his number, and TKO’d him at the halfway mark less than two months ago in Puebla. That was Edgar’s fourth straight stoppage win in his last four fights.
But Edgar is guardedly as relaxed as he can be. He says the increasing list of successful defenses don’t weigh him down, as he leaves stress and pressure behind in the changing room before each fight. He also stresses that he never underestimates or disrespects an opponent. But he’s strong and very happy with his own preparations, diet plus sparring. And more than ready to enjoy this challenge to this bill to the full. He explains his intention is to win the opening rounds, but make sure his defenses are up to scratch, as that spell will be potentially be the most dangerous torrid time, while Mayol is fresh and ready to trade leather with gusto.
Rising star Daniel “El Tremendo” Estrada who’s the WBC Youth Lightweight Champion, is predicting he’ll KO his rugged Argentinian opponent Ricky Arrieta. Danny who’s dispatched his last eight opponents well before the final bell, says Ricky likes to fight at distance, and so he’ll cut it and him down with constant pressure.
The fight night which is being promoted by Boxeo De Gala, Corona and the State of Chiapas will also have the fizz of powerful hitting Lightweight Carlos Zarate Jr, with his legendary Dad in his corner.
