At Arena Monterrey in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, Edgar Sosa (41-6, 24KOs) retained the WBC international flyweight title with a unanimous twelve round decision over Japanese boxer Masafumi Okubo (18-4, 6KOs).
The featherweight mandatory challenger of the WBC, Jhonny Gonzalez (47-7, 41 KOs), had no trouble knocking out overmatched Santos Marimon (13-13-1, 8 KOs) in two rounds. Gonzalez promised a big knockout to the crowd who packed the venue to celebrate the Mexican revolution. He delivered.
In what many will consider an upset victory, Alberto Garza (23-4-1, 18 KOs) won a twelve round decision to snap the winning streak of previously undefeated Justin Savi (24-1, 16 KOs). Savi was on the verge of a title shot and viewed by a lot of people in Mexico as a rising star. Garza gets the WBC silver featherweight title with the win.
