At Arena Mexico in Mexico City, former champion Edgar Sosa (39-6, 23KOs) returned to the ring for the second time since the TKO loss to Rodel Mayol, and stopped Jose Luis Varela (15-8, 7KOs) of Venezuela in four rounds. Sosa is the champion emeritus of the World Boxing Council (WBC). The event was promoted by Gala Boxing.
Sosa dominated the South American since the bell first rang. He sent Varela to the canvas in the third round with a left hook to the jaw. Varela was recovered and survived the round, but then Sosa battered him again with solid body shots and a blistering attack without a response, the experienced Referee Jose Guadalupe Garcia decided to stop the fight at 1:33 minutes of the fourth.
