Philippine super flyweight champion Eden Sonsona has no problems with weight, as he prepares for his bid to become the fifth reigning Filipino world champion on Saturday night in South Africa.
Sonsona managed to eat heavy meals yesterday with his father/trainer/manager Rommel Nazario and matchmaker Gabriel “Bebot” Elorde Jr. at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park.
Sonsona, who ate a heavy breakfast yesterday, has weighed within the division’s limit since Tuesday.
The 19-year old resident of Paranaque City, Metro Manila will attempt to capture the IBO bantamweight crown from reigning titlist Silence Mabuza tomorrow night.
“Eden us very confident that he’ll beat Mabuza and will bring home the belt,” said Elorde.
The 30-year-old South African was tagged as pre-fight favorite in the scheduled 12-round contest that will be televised nationally in South Africa. Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson will work as commentator at ringide.
Sonsona has a record of 14-2, with only 3 knockouts while Mabuza sports a menacing 20-2, with 16 knockouts.
Sonasona arrived in South Africa last weekend after spending two weeks of his final preparations in the high altitude Baguio City in Northern Philippines.
