Savannah Marshall will be a world champion.
That is the assessment of Eddie Hearn, the former world amateur gold medallist’s promoter, after he watched the 28-year-old dismantle the latest challenge put in front of her.
Earlier this month, ‘The Silent Assassin’, from Hartlepool, took on America’s Ashleigh Curry in what was originally meant to be an official eliminator for the WBA female world title.
Marshall, who is managed by Mick Hennessy and made her Matchroom debut back in August, battered Curry for two completed rounds before, with 47 seconds gone in the third at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle, the referee Ron Kearney called a halt to proceedings.
“Savannah needs a test, but there is no test from where she currently is to world title level,” Hearn told Boxing Scene. “And because there is no level in between then she must really go for it.
“She has to go for a world title and I’ll deliver that for her, absolutely.”
Hearn said that Marshall is probably done for the year but he says he will come good on his promise in the new year to make the Commonwealth Games gold medallist reach the upper echelons of the paid code, just like she did as an amateur.
“Savannah’s a very talented fighter with a great amateur pedigree,” he continued. “She punches hard which is something you don’t often see in the women’s game and she’ll go and win the world title.”
