Two weeks ago, Warrington’s Rocky Fielding moved to 11-0 (5) on the undercard of Kell Brook versus Carson Jones, courtesy of a single round stoppage of Hungary’s Ferenc Hafner, who dropped to 12-2 (9).  Fielding, nicknamed the “Rocky From Stocky”, was taking part his first outing since leaving Frank Warren Promotions for Matchroom Sports and he wasted no time in dispatching his southpaw foe after just over two-minutes of one-sided action.

The 24-year-old’s quickfire win impressed Eddie Hearn.  Matchroom’s Managing Director believes that the win over Hafner represents a new beginning for the 2011 Prizefighter: The Super Middleweights tournament winner.

“With Rocky, if you match him with fighters who come to win he is heavy handed,” said Hearn when speaking to BoxingScene about the 168lber.  “If you match him against guys who are running around the ring like Jamie Ambler and Tommy Tolan it is very difficult to look good.  Hafner came at Rocky and he produced a first-round knockout.

“Plus he did 200 tickets on two-weeks notice, and 80 of those are ringside, so thank you very much.  We need more fighters like Rocky Fielding, where are they?  Now we might do a Prizefighter in Liverpool and put Rocky at the top of the bill in his first title fight.”

Although billed as a super middleweight, Fielding has yet to make the championship limit, he weighed 176lb to Hafner’s 163¼lb on Saturday night, but the contender believes that when the time comes to contest titles he will be bang on the weight and in the form of his life.

“It was like my pro debut all over again,” said Fielding.  “I’m just happy to get out there and get a fight in.  I’ve liked how things have gone since signing with Matchroom and I am getting what I want – I was out on this show and will be out often.  I’m very happy and there’s a title fight on the way.  I did a lot of tickets.   I have a good fanbase, a good team behind me and I’m very happy.”

He added: “[Trainer] Oliver [Harrison] works on a lot of things in the gym.  I work with guys like [British middleweight champion] Martin Murray and on lots of technical stuff, so we all learn from each other and I am improving all the time.  I took the finish well when it came.”
