NEW YORK – If Eddie Hearn had his way, Katie Taylor’s promoter would be able to announce her highly anticipated rematch with Amanda Serrano in the immediate aftermath of Serrano’s featherweight title unification fight with Erika Cruz on Saturday night.

Negotiations are ongoing, however, to finalize a fight Hearn hopes will take place May 20 at 3Arena in Dublin. Hearn informed BoxingScene.com that undisputed 140-pound champion Chantelle Cameron and unified 130-pound champ Alycia Baumgardner, who will fight on the Serrano-Cruz undercard, are two potential opponents for Taylor’s next fight if Serrano’s side doesn’t agree to contractual terms for a rematch of one of boxing’s best action fights of 2022.

“No deal yet for Taylor-Serrano,” Hearn said before a press conference Thursday to promote the Serrano-Cruz card. “That’s the fight we wanna make in Ireland. Still work to do, but at the same time you’ve got Chantelle Cameron, you’ve got Alycia Baumgardner. They’re two options for Katie Taylor in May. We represent Erika Cruz as well, so we would like to see her win. But at the same time, you know, Taylor-Serrano II in Ireland is a massive event.”

Ireland’s Taylor (22-0, 6 KOs) beat Brooklyn’s Serrano (43-2-1, 30 KOs) by split decision in their back-and-forth 10-round, 135-pound championship match last April 30 at a sold-out Madison Square Garden. Taylor retained her IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO lightweight titles, but fans immediately clamored for a rematch.

“That was such a special sporting occasion that doing it back in Ireland, we have to do it again,” Hearn said. “We just have to make sure we don’t let things or people get in the way. It’s just like the most natural rematch. We would be idiots if we didn’t make that fight. But we still have to go through the process of negotiating, making sure everyone’s happy. But hopefully, if everything plays out, everyone will be sensible and we can make it happen.”

Hearn is negotiating with Jake Paul’s MVP Promotions, which represents Serrano.

If Serrano overcomes Mexico City’s Cruz (15-1, 3 KOs) in a 10-round main event DAZN will stream from Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater, the seven-division champion will become women’s boxing’s fully unified featherweight champion. Serrano owns the IBF, IBO, WBC and WBO 126-pound crowns, whereas Cruz holds the WBA belt.

Taylor, who will watch Serrano-Cruz from ringside, wanted to face Serrano for the second time at Dublin’s legendary Croke Park, an outdoor stadium that could accommodate more than 80,000 fans for boxing. The 36-year-old Taylor, a 2012 Olympic gold medalist, has not fought in Ireland since she turned pro in November 2016.

Hearn has determined, though, that staging Taylor-Serrano II at that iconic venue would be entirely too costly.

“To run the event at Croke Park is three times more expensive than running at Wembley Stadium [in London],” Hearn said. “And with what the fighters want financially, it doesn’t work. So, it’s not gonna be just the case as most people say on social media, ‘Oh, Eddie, just do it anyway.’ No, thank you. The idea is to actually make it a financial success. And I promised Katie her next fight will be in Ireland, so at the moment, that will be in the 3Arena. It [holds] like 12,000. But we’ll see.”
