Eddie Hearn doesn't enjoy putting a ton of pressure on his fighters. But sometimes, he has no choice but to sing their praises and tell the rest of the world how great they truly are.

Diego Pacheco is a baby-faced 22-year-old with a lot to learn but with ostensibly a bunch of potential. The Los Angeles resident seemingly checks all of the boxes. He’s big, strong, throws combinations, and has a propensity for getting his opponents out of there in a heartbeat.

Recently, an under-the-radar show in Nuevo Leon, Mexico, saw Pacheco take on Manuel Gallegos, a normally durable journeyman. Pacheco was all smiles as he strolled through the arena and into the ring. Hearn though, had a bit of sweating dripping down his forehead as the hairs on the back of his neck protruded.

Was it a good idea to put the young kid in the ring with a seasoned vet? Was it too much too soon? All questions that presumably ran through the longtime promoter's head. Pacheco, however, ensured that Hearn had nothing to worry about.

From the moment the opening bell rang, it was one-sided traffic. Pacheco (19-0, 16 KOs) pounded Manuel until he was forced to scream no mas in the fourth round. His creative offensive attack and timely defense made Hearn smile from ear to ear.

Finding a good fighter is one thing, but finding one that becomes great and championship material is something else. Pacheco though, fits that mold according to Hearn.

Writing checks that his fighter ultimately has to cash can become cumbersome. Hearn though, has seen enough from his young contender. Although the waters in the super middleweight division are shark-infested, he’s convinced that Pacheco will soon be able to swim in the deep end.

“I’m so excited about this young man honestly,” said Hearn recently to DAZN. “I am 100% sure he will be world super middleweight champion.”
