Eamonn Magee Jr.—a 2-0 junior welterweight and son of the former 140- and 147-pound fighter of the same name—has been stabbed and killed in Northern Ireland, according to the Belfast Telegraph.

The stabbing happened early Saturday morning. A 29-year-old man who is a suspect in the case has been arrested. Police are continuing to seek more information.

Magee Jr. was 22 years old. He’d turned pro in June of last year, winning a fight via second-round technical knockout, then added to his record this past March with a first-round stoppage.

His father, 42, left the sport in 2007 with a record of 27-6 (18 KOs). He lost a decision to Ricky Hatton in 2002.

A child’s death would be a devastating loss for anyone, but this could be particularly tough for Magee Sr., who already had his own struggles over the years, landing in handcuffs and behind bars for cases of violence against women, as well as in hospitals with serious injuries suffered from attacks.
