Once beaten prospect Thomas Dulorme (16-1) feels that he only needs one tune up fight before he gets right back in the mix for big fights and a possible title shot. After his last fight, a TKO loss to Luis Abregu, Dulorme announced his intentions to move down to the junior welterweight division. In a recent conversation with BoxingScene, Dulorme made it clear that the loss to Abregu isn't the reason why he is moving down in weight.
"I always wanted to go down to 140. I want to be a champ at 140 and then at 147. Abregu didn't force me to do it. I'm doing it because I can make (the weight) easy. I'm only 22 and want to move down now," Dulorme explained while pointing out Abregu's weight advantage when they fought. "I didn't rehydrate very much in that fight at all. I need to build myself back up to that (147) weight class," he continued.
The Puerto Rico based prospect is scheduled to return to the ring on February 20th as previously reported on Boxingscene. Dulorme said that the fight will take place at 143 pounds and that if all goes well he will move down to 140 in his subsequent fight.
"I am ready for the best at 140 now. I always want to have the chance to fight the best. That's why I fought Abregu but I'm going to move down in weight the right way. This fight will be at 143 and if I feel as good as I think I will then the next fight will be at 140," he stated.
Dulorme finished our conversation by saying that if a big opportunity presented itself in the welterweight division he wouldn't have a problem moving back up. "Even though the plan is to go down to 140 I'm ready for big fights at 147 as well. I'm ready for Paulie (Malignaggi) or any of the other (welterweight) champions," Dulorme told BoxingScene.com
