Daniel Dubois made a big statement as he scored a stoppage in his first fight of the year.
The 21-year-old heavyweight flattened a former world title challenger on Saturday night, adding the vacant WBO European title to his collection of WBC Youth world and English titles.
Dubois moved to double figures, exclusively live on BT Sport, as part of Frank Warren’s return to the famous Royal Albert Hall in Kensington, London.
He advanced to 10-0, stopping Razvan Cojanu with just 12 seconds remaining in the second round.
Next up for the youngster, who finished it with a devastating right-hook and left-hand combination, is a break before the next move.
“I was expecting a knockout, I knew I could do it. I’ve had a lot of time out of the ring and tonight was about getting the win and getting another belt,” he said after his win. “I know that I can beat Nathan Gorman, I know I’ve got what it takes and I’m looking forward to it when it happens.”
Promoter Frank Warren revealed that the fight will be made later this year, once both fighters have had “a few more fights” and “some more exposure”.
And Gorman was impressed with ‘DDD’s’ showing against a man he went the distance with at Manchester Arena back in December, exclusively live on BT Sport Box Office, as part of the supporting cast to Josh Warrington’s IBF featherweight world title defence against Carl Frampton.
“It was a very good performance from Daniel,” he said. “Razvan went for walks and switched off and he was caught and knocked out.
“A lot is at stake when we meet. I want it to happen as soon as possible, really, as the winner goes on to world level and the loser has to go back to the drawing board.”
