Heavyweight contender Daniel Dubois is backing Dillian Whyte to overcome former WBA champion Alexander Povetkin on Saturday night at Matchroom's Fight Camp in Brentwood.
Whyte will stake his mandatory status under the WBC, in a high stakes showdown over twelve rounds. The winner will be in line for a crack at the WBC title currently held by Tyson Fury.
I think Dillian should have too much youth and determination. I know Povetkin is a tough talented Olympian, good amateur level fighter and he’s a warrior, so it’s going to be a good clash. They’ve both got good left hooks so it should be interesting,” Dubois told IFL TV.
Dubois' promoter, Frank Warren, has been talking up a potential showdown with Whyte.
First, Dubois has a stay-busy fight coming up next week - and then he has a showdown with undefeated Olympic silver medal winner Joe Joyce in October.
If he comes away with a win over Joyce, then Dubois is ready for Whyte and everyone else in the weight class.
“Down the line Dillian Whyte will be a great fight and all the rest of them, once I break through after Joe [Joyce] it has to be these guys, I can’t go backwards,” Dubois said.
"It’s a dream [to win titles and get the big fights], a goal I must chase and go after with everything I’ve got and finish what we’ve started from day one. I’ve been going for the world title and since I’ve been a kid this has been my dream."
And Dubois believes that he can drill Whyte like anyone else at the weight.
“Yeah, I do believe I’ll knock anyone out, if I hit him. I need to land first obviously, but I believe I have the power to knockout anyone,” Dubois said.
