Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren believes competing in British Title fights should be dependent on ability as opposed to age, where the minimum age is currently 21.

Heavyweight hitter Daniel Dubois has steamrolled past his three opponents since turning professional, and the 19-year-old has stated he wants to win every title possible.

Under current rules, the Greenwich powerhouse would have to wait 13 months before he could fight for the Lord Lonsdale belt.

“I don’t think it should be about age, it should be about ability,” Warren told iFL TV. “You can fight for a World Title at 19 or 20 [years of age], but you can’t fight for a British Title. The Board of Control are mature and sensible enough to decide whether a boxer is ready to fight for a British Title or not,” he argued.

Dubois earned two first round knockouts against Marcus Kelly and David Howe, and stopped former Olympian Blaise Mendouo in the second round in Leicester. ‘Triple D’ is next in action on July 8th at the Copper Box.

Dubois has been making a lot of headlines since taking part in a sparring session where he reportedly rocked and dropped IBF, WBA, IBO champion Anthony Joshua.

"Did I knock Joshua down in sparring?' He says. 'I can't really say too much about that. It was a good spar, very competitive and a good learning experience for me. At the time I was only 18 and it was full on. He hit me hard and I hit him just as hard back," Dubois told reporter Declan Taylor.

"I was a little bit starstruck and in awe of him but once we got in the ring he was just another opponent with two arms and two legs. I held my own. I had 75 amateur fights and won 70 of them. I sat down with my dad and we thought it was time to turn over and here we are today."

Could a fight with Joshua happen in the future? Dubois is very open to it.

"If the public want to see it, it will happen,' he said. 'I will have to step up quicker, challenge credible opponents with decent names and then yeah the public will call for that fight," Dubois said.
