WBC cruiserweight champion Grigory Drozd was stunned when Tyson Fury unseated Wladimir Klitschko on November 28th in Dusseldorf, Germany to capture the WBA/IBO/IBF/WBO world titles.
Fury was seen as a huge underdog and landing a big lucky punch was the way that most experts saw as his only possibility to pull out the win. He did it another way, and surprised everyone by outboxing Klitschko over twelve rounds to a unanimous decision.
Drozd admits he gave Fury little to no chance of victory. A rematch will take place in the first half of 2016. When the two heavyweights meet again, Drozd would not be surprised if Klitschko gets revenge and regains his belts.
"When a champion holds the belt for several years and he finally loses, it is always amazing. And this case is no exception. Personally, I didn't give Fury much of a chance with Klitschko. Yes he is tall, with a punch, but he doesn't seem [like a big threat] from the outside. I didn't see him as a serious threat to Wladimir," Drozd said.
"But the most interesting thing about this, is that Fury did not accidentally knock Klitschko out - he really outboxed him. This was a huge surprise. For some, it was the long-awaited victory for Fury, and for others it was a big disappointment. However, I do not rule out the possibility of Wladimir reclaiming all the belts."
