Erdgas Sportarena in Halle, Germany - Dominic Boesel (21-0, 7 KOs) kept his unbeaten streak going with a unanimous decision over Balazs Kelemen (24-2, 13 KOs). The scores were 120-107, 119-108, 118-109.
With the win, Boesel retains the WBO Intercontinental title and captures the vacant WBA Continental title. Bosel is the WBO's number on rated light heavyweight. The champion is Sergey Kovalev, who defends against Jean Pascal next Saturday in Montreal.
Boesel was the bigger and stronger man. He stunned Kelemen a few times and scored a knockdown in the eight round, but never had him on the verge of being stopped. Kelemen showed guts and was able to keep things interesting in the bout.
It was the first bout of the year for Boesel, who went 3-0, 1KO in 2015 and is now within touching distance of securing a world title shot.
Kelemen was stopped by Vincent Feigenbutz last March in nine rounds. He was able to recover by winning his next two fights, by decision. He spent most of his career at super middleweight and this was a tough assignment to take against seasoned contender at 175-pounds.
