Newly crowned Philippine bantamweight champion Michael Domingo knows he is in for a tough time against No.1 contender and former Pan Asia Boxing Association flyweight champion Rolly Lunas in Domingo’s first title defense at the Mandaue City Sports Complex on Saturday.
The title fight will be telecast by Viva Sports on the top-rated weekly boxing show “Main Event” over RPN 9 sponsored by Tanduay, the No.1 Rhum. It will also be telecast over PBO, the Pinoy Box Office channel nationwide on Dream as well as the entire Middle East.
Domingo is fresh from a five-fight winning streak including three impressive victories against touted Indonesian opponents before winning the title from Joel Bauya last July. The champion has a record of 25-14-3 with 12 KO’s. He Lunas who fought for the WBC International super flyweight title and lost to classy South African Masibulele Makepula is coming off back-to-back wins and is dead set on winning the title. Lunas has a record of 20-5-0 with 10 KO’s.
Another exciting bout on the fight card will be the super flyweight battle between promising southpaw Robert Allanic who is managed by well-known Cebu resident Cliff Smart and former WBO Asia Pacific champion Roy Doliguez. Allanic boasts of an 8-1 win loss record with 5 knockouts to his name while Doliguez who is ranked No. 6 in the country has a record of 16-10-5 with 9 KO’s.
The explosive fight card promoted by the well-known Cebu promoter Sammy Gello-ani will be headlined by an OPBF title eliminator featuring No. 1 ranked Z “The Dream” Gorres who is also rated No 5 in the world by the WBO and No. WBO Asia Pacific flyweight Wisanu
Pornobnum of Thailand.
Gorres must win to get a crack at the OPBF title currently held by Japan’s Masayuki Arinaga.
