LITTLE known Dodie Boy Agrabio solidified Manila’s reputation as the hotbed of Philippine boxing when he beat Cebu’s JR Sollano in their championship bout in Saturday night in Dalaguete, Cebu province, Philippines.
Agrabio earned a convincing unanimous decision win over 12-round clash against Sollano to capture the vacant Philippine super featherweight title, making him the sixth Luzon-trained fighter with national championship.
The judges scored the bout 115-114, 116-112 and 116-112 all in favor of the Malabon City-based Agrabio, who is a native of Barangay Balasiao in Kiblawan, Davao.
Other RP champions from Manila and nearby province are: minimumweight Florante Condes and light flyweight Sonny Boy Jaro from Rizal, super flyweight Eden Sonsona super bantamweight Alex Escaner and featherweight Vinvin Rufino from Paranaque.
In 11 weight categories in RP boxing, three champions come from the Visayas, particularly Cebu. They are flyweight Jojo Bardon, bantamweight Michael Domingo and welterweight Dondon Sultan.
Lightweight Arnel Porras from Kidapawan City is the only national titlist from Mindanao.
The belt in super lightweight class remains vacant.
