On the undercard to Joe Calzaghe-Roy Jones Jr. at New York's Madison Square Garden, Dmitriy Salita 29-0, 16KOs won a unanimous twelve round decision over Derrick Campos 17-6, 10KOs to capture the vacant IBF Inter-Continental junior welterweight title. The scores were 120-108, 117-111 and 115-113.

The fight was very lackluster and the excitment didn't come until the final round. Salita should have been able to go through a guy like Campos, but he was unable to do so and was rocked in a few of the rounds. Campos would land some good punches that shook Salita up in the third. Salita landed a lot of accurate bodyshots in the fourth and caught Campos with some good straight punches to the head. Campos began to make it a brawl in round six. During round eight the brawling helped when he pinned Salita against the ropes and landed several power punches.

In round nine, Salita ouboxed Campos, and then Campos came back with more brawling in round ten. Campos continued to rally with big shots in round eleven. Both guys traded some big punches to end the twelfth and final round, with both being rocked.
