Former Super Six participant Andre Dirrell recently advised BoxingScene.com that he plans to return to the ring in a tuneup fight in December. He hasn't fought since March of last year, and spent most of the layoff recovering from neurological injuries suffered when he defeated Arthur Abraham via disqualification in that March bout.
While appearing on a recent edition of The Boxing Lab, BoxingScene.com's official audio show, Dirrell mentioned potential opponents that he wants to face down the road.
Dirrell is good friends with Andre Ward who faces Carl Froch in the Super Six finals next month. There has been speculation that Dirrell complained about the neurological injury in order to avoid a fight with Ward. Dirrell shot down the speculation and said that a fight between Ward and himself would be a great fight.
"Me and Ward would be a war. The fans would love to see it. We would really go at each other," said Dirrell.
Dirrell said that he also has his eyes on a rematch with Carl Froch who handed him his lone loss when Dirrell faced him in his backyard in the U.K. The Michigan native also mentioned Mikkel Kessler and Lucian Bute as potential opponents.
"I would love a rematch with Froch. The fans want to see it and Froch wants to see it. Regardless of whether he has a belt or not I want that fight. You also have Kessler who is out of the tournament and didn't get eliminated from it, and of course you have Bute. 168 is still one hell of a division to be in," Dirrell told The Boxing Lab.
