Super middleweight Andre Dirrell was angered by Carl Froch's recent comments pertaining to WBA champion Andre Ward. Froch, the WBC champion, was scheduled to face Ward in the final bout of the Super Six tournament on October 29th in Atlantic City. Ward withdrew on Thursday after suffering a cut above his right eye in sparring.
Initially, Froch became enraged because his team was made aware of Ward's withdrawal by reading the internet. After injury details were revealed, Froch questioned the severe nature of the cut.
“This is absurd and unprofessional. Ward needs to get his act together,” said Froch. “Of course, you’ve got to take the medical advice seriously, but for a cut to put you out of a fight a full five weeks before the event is ludicrous. If it were two weeks out from the fight, maybe I’d understand. But he’s got 35 days to deal with it. To me, he’s showing his weakness. Nothing changes for me. I’ll be ready if and when he shows up.”
Dirrell, a close friend of Ward, ripped Froch over his comments. Dirrell lost a close twelve round split decision to Froch in the first stage of the Super Six.
"Froch is pathetic. Ward is gonna whoop his ass anyway," Dirrell noted.
