On April 16th, Worthing southpaw Alex Dilmaghani, 4-0 (1 early), will continue his development as a pro in a four round contest on the undercard of the Denton Vassell vs. Lee Purdy/Thomas McDonagh vs. Gary Woolcombe double header. The Ronnie Davis-trained man can't wait to step in the ring on fight night.
“I'm looking forward to my fight very much,” declared Dilmaghani. “All the hard gym work will be done soon, so I'm counting down the days.”
The lightweight was meant to fight on the Anthony Small vs. Sam Webb bill on March 26th, but a virus meant that he had to be pulled from the card. “Everything happens for a reason,” reasoned Alex on the illness, which stopped him from fighting.
“I was initially very disappointed because I didn't think I'd be fighting until May after March, but my promoter got me on very soon after so I'm pleased and thankful about that.”
All this has done is fuel the fires of Dilmaghani, though, who is now determined to impress. He said, “With every fight I aim to impress, and I definitely intend to make a statement on this show. I aim to steal the show every time I fight.”
By doing this, he will emulate his idols in the squared circle; all of which have had an influence on his style. “I've got many people I look up to in boxing for various reasons,” began Dilmaghani, a true student of the game.
“There are people like Bernard Hopkins and Archie Moore who defy the odds with age, as well as fighters who defied the odds in other areas such as colour like Jack Johnson and Sam Langford.”
“I also admire fighters like Diego Corrales and Arturo Gatti for their heart and never quit attitude”, he continued, “but overall, my all time favourite is Roberto Duran. I study many boxers; Hopkins, Cotto, Duran, Chavez, Whitaker, Pep, Winky Wright, Juan Manuel Lopez, Ricardo Lopez; the list goes on."
Supposing all goes well and Dilmaghani gets the 'W' on April 16th, Dilmaghani is happy to let his promoters decide his next move. “I'll fight whoever the Hatton's put in front of me,” he asserted. “I've got a lot of respect and trust in all the Hatton team. Richard [Poxon], Gareth [Williams], Ray and Ricky [Hatton] are all top people.”
To finish up, Alex, who has yet to lose a round in his pro career, had some quick thanks to make. He enthused, “I'd like to thank everyone for their support, and Hatton Promotions for getting me busy.”
