Diego Magdaleno (22-0 8 KOs) paid a visit to us on The Boxing Lab, BoxingScene.com's official audio show this past Tuesday. The undefeated super featherweight faces veteran Antonio Davis (29-7 13KOs) on Saturday in a fight televised by Telefutura.
Magdaleno recently received a #1 ranking by the WBC. The Boxing Lab co-host Ernie Gabion asked Magdaleno why he didn't look for an easier fight since he should have a title shot coming to him in the near future.
"First off I like to stay busy. I don't like to be too far away from the ring. This is a fight where I can't look past it. My opponent has two arms and will come out swinging. There have been a lot of upsets this year so I have to stay on my 'A' game," Magdaleno stated.
Magdaleno may only have 8 knockouts out of his 22 wins but five have came in his past seven fights. The Las Vegas resident says that he feels equally comfortable whether he boxes or bangs with his opponents.
"I feel I can do it all and that I can adapt to whatever my opponent brings. Whether he brawls or boxes, I feel I can mix it up in there still come out clean," Magdaleno said.
The 25 year-old fighter said that he isn't looking past Davis but plans on returning before the year is out. He has also said that there is a good chance his next fight will be on a high profile show.
"I let my promoter Top Rank handle that stuff but I hope to be back late this fall. I hear that I might be on the Manny Pacquiao undercard," Magdaleno told The Boxing Lab.
Pacquiao is tentatively scheduled to return to the ring on November 10th against either Tim Bradley or Juan Manuel Marquez.
