BoxingScene.com has confirmed with manager Frank Espinoza that lightweight contender Diego Magdaleno (27-0, 11KOs) is a promotional free agent. Magdaleno's contract with Top Rank recently expired and there are ongoing negotiations between both parties for a new deal.

"Yes, that's true. The contract did expire, but we are talking with Top Rank and hope to get Diego back in the ring very soon," Espinoza told BoxingScene.com. "Diego wants to remain with Top Rank. I don't really want to think about going anywhere else while we're negotiating in good faith with Top Rank."

Magdaleno is close to a title shot, which Espinoza hopes will happen in the first half of 2015.

"With Terence Crawford moving up to 140, the WBO title is going to be vacant. I'd like Diego to fight Juan Diaz for the vacant belt," Espinoza said.
