James ‘Jazza’ Dickens 17-1 (5 KOs) has confirmed via social media that he will challenge Gavin McDonnell 11-0-2 (4 KOs) for his British super-bantamweight title in Hull on Oct 25.

Dickens put on his Facebook page earlier tonight: “Date now set, fight agreed to be on October 25th in Hull. British title vs Gavin McDonnell. Put it in your diary.”

This will be the second time in just over a year that the 23-year-old Liverpudlian has challenged for the 122lb Lonsdale belt after being stopped by former champion, Kid Galahad, in the tenth round of their contest last September.

McDonnell, the twin brother of world bantamweight champion, Jamie, will be making the second defence of his title after stopping Leigh Wood back in February to claim the vacant strap. And in May, the Yorkshireman had to be content with retaining his title via split decision draw after a 12-round see-saw battle with Josh Wale. And as advised by the British Boxing Board of Control in their July circular, the winner of the McDonnell-Dickens clash will box Wale in their next fight.

McDonnell-Dickens will be part of a Matchroom Sports promotion with Luke Campbell set to top the bill when he faces Daniel Brizuela in an international lightweight contest as reported on ‘Scene earlier. Campbell's local rival and former conqueror of Brizuela, Tommy Coyle, will be on the undercard. Wins for Campbell and Coyle would keep the pair on track for an all-Hull showdown, possibly at an outdoor venue, next summer.
