Lou DiBella, promoter for WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, has fired back at George Peterson, the trainer for Paul Williams. In an earlier story, Peterson gave his opinion on the left hand that knocked Williams out in the second round of their rematch. He called the shot a "desperation" punch that Martinez threw with his eyes closed.

"Paul was in control of the fight until he got caught. And, there's no doubt that he would have stopped this guy. Absolutely no doubt. Because, see this guy is a guy who wants to fight the way that he wants to fight. This guy can't fight a three-minute round. We knew that. We knew that the only chance that Sergio Martinez had was to stop Paul. And, sure enough, in desperation, and with his eyes closed, just ducking his head and throwing a punch, he landed," Peterson said.

DiBella disagrees, stating that Martinez landed the same shot several times in the first round and it was only a matter of time before the knockout came. While Peterson supports his boxer's ability to compete at 160-pounds, DiBella has advised the trainer to keep his fighter active in the lower weight divisions.

"I think that George may have had a couple of early glasses of champagne, because if that punch was a lucky punch, then Sergio landed that same lucky punch six times in the first round. And, in addition, then Sergio landed that same lucky punch 50 times in the second half of the first fight. It wasn't a lucky punch. It was a perfectly-timed punch," DiBella said.

"I love George Peterson. He's my friend, and I have tremendous respect for Paul Williams and I think that he's still a great fighter. But maybe he should consider staying at 154 pounds or 147 pounds where he belongs. I think that Paul Williams has a chance to be a world champion again some day. But that would be at 147, or at 154, or, maybe even at 160 against the right guy."
