New York, New York - Come December 5th, promoter Lou Dibella believes the bout between middleweights Peter Quillin (32-0-1, 23 KO’s) and Danny Jacobs (30-1, 27 KO’s) will be the biggest bout to ever take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
He feels the long-awaited showdown is bigger than anything he's ever promoted at the venue - and he takes the same position when discussing past events which Golden Boy Promotions staged at the venue when Oscar De La Hoya's company had an exclusive deal with Barclays.
“This is the biggest fight in Barclays history and certainly the biggest fight I will have promoted in Brooklyn and it's going to have the biggest crowd,” Dibella told BoxingScene.com. “I think we’ve been doing great crowds with Garcia-Peterson, Garcia Malignaggi. Khan-Algieri did a good crowd. This is going to be a great fight.”
Dibella said the mathematics are simple. Put on a 50-50 fight in the right area and watch the magic happen.
“I think that’s the best thing for the promotion and the best thing for boxing. Both big profile guys, big stars, battle of Brooklyn, and both New York Golden Gloves champions,” stated Dibella.
“It’s a matchup that’s been a long time coming. I don’t know who’s going to win. I have no idea who I’m picking. I want to sit there on December 5th, I think it’s going to be brutal. I wouldn’t be surprised if both guys hit the canvas, and I’m going to enjoy this.”
And for Dibella, the matchup has been brewing long enough and needs no further marinating.
“I think it’s happening at the right time, neither guy is over the hill. It’s happening, its fresh, it’s not waiting 7 to 8 years for Mayweather-Pacquiao. Its turf war in Brooklyn, happening at the right time.”
